Seismic Events & Earthquakes As a Client, it's most important for you to first consider your risks of encountering this event by comparing your installation site to known seismic activity zones. A closer examination of any particular zone's characteristics will then guide you toward the determination of what seismic rating you will require. Finally, you can further tailor the rating you specify by carefully considering the level of any damage your blast resistant building may be able to sustain while best satisfying both the economic and structural demands of your particular application, whether it's an RIE building, switchgear house, control room or guard post. For example, you should consider whether any equipment within the building must remain operable both during and after a potential seismic event in order to prevent a more catastrophic condition. You must also determine whether the blast resistant building can or cannot be evacuated during such an event by any personnel who may be stationed within it. Because each application is unique, these are determinations best left to you, on a case by case basis. For the most detailed and extensive information on seismic zones that will guide your determinations regarding this risk, we recommend viewing this link: United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program |
